Quarantine tanks
A quarantine tank is a tank that you must have apart from your main betta fish tanks. It doesn’t matter if you have only a few betta fish or quite a number of them. A quarantine tanks is a must-have tank as it can be useful both when you treat sick fish or if you want to isolate your fish before placing them in your main betta fish tank as you might not have known if it carries a disease.
You certainly do not want any outbreak to happen. As such I highly recommend that you isolate a new friend of yours for at least one week before letting him dive into the main betta fish tank. If there are any parasites or diseases in a particular betta they will usually kill this host within 3 days.
It would be best for your bettas to be kept in a separate 10-gallon tank. You will need to maintain within the quarantine tank the same water conditions as your main betta fish tank. A good quarantine tank should contain water substrate and a sponge filter. Keep in mind, however, that you do not need any expensive equipment because you are only using it for quarantine purposes.
At the end of the week-long period of quarantine, you can transfer your tropical betta fish to his permanent home. As a final tip, you must ensure that main tank’s lights are turned off for at least one half hour. Since this transfer would probably bring stress to your betta, the foregoing procedure can be employed to reduce the same. Now, scoop your betta using a standard net and gently place him to his new tank!
