Hospital tanks

Some uncommon symptoms might develop in a given fighter betta fish. There are cases when there are wool tuffs which resemble fungus on the fish’s gills and fins. This, you should know, is a contagious ailment. As soon as this and other symptoms of illness arise, decide on buying a hospital tank as soon as possible.

In setting up a hospital tank, take a handful of cycled gravel from your main tank and place the same inside the hospital tank. You must know that gravel contains highest concentration of good bacteria. You can use these good bacteria by letting them begin to grow in your breeding and hospital tank.

You need to purchase a 10-gallon hospital tank for the purpose of treating sick fish. You need this size because you don’t know just how many of your bettas get the infection and run the risk of dying at any given time. Once you see signs of disease, treat them with antibiotic after moving them to the hospital tank. After at least two weeks of treatment and after checking that they have now fully recovered, you can release them back to the community tank. As a final but important step, make sure to rinse well the hospital tank to prevent future infections.
