You must have heard that it took generations of propagation and breeding to produce the vibrant colors that bettas have today. But no matter how you get your information to ensure that you get the best colors that breeding has in store for you, you will always need some sorts of prep work. You need to know the following facts.

You must ensure weeks prior to breeding, you already have known the things that will surely let you experience the stress of a breeding endeavor. Aside from giving your betta a diet which is rich in protein, you also need to prepare for him a breeding tank which is just right for him.

Evidence points out that male bettas prefer a confined area when breeding. This however does not mean that you will be advised to go on with a 3-gallon tank for your freshwater betta fish. You need to think on what happens next. Imagine that the number may multiply by a hundred fold. With this in mind, plan ahead on buying a bigger tank for breeding purposes or some of newly born bettas would soon perish.

You must be aware that the life of your tropical betta fish revolves around the surface of the water. When breeding, your male betta will have to move eggs from the bottom to the surface where the bubble nest is located. To prevent undue stress, make sure that the depth of the water will be no more than 10 inches from the substrate (gravel stored at the bottom) to the surface.
